The good ones are hard to let go, and Driftwoodsablazin is one of those horses. “Compa,” which is Mexican slang for “friend, buddy or pal,” is just that. This easy-on-they eyes 2012 dark bay tobiano gelding is a ranch horse deluxe: He’s cowy, handy and versatile. Compa has been Kelsey Love Thomas’ dad’s Number 1 horse for many years, both at the rodeo and ranch horse shows, as a pick-up horse and as a competitor. This reliable gelding is surefooted, having been raised in the hills and mountains on the central coast of California. Since of summer 2021, he’s been in Texas with the Loves getting tuned up on heading, heeling, breakaway and cow horse. He’s been used to brand, sort, gather and rope cattle outside and has experience as a help horse for halter breaking and colt starting. With a good mind and soft, kind eye, this horse is ideal for just about any level rider; He’ll be honest and true to a novice rider then step up and give his all to an experienced hand. Compa is fun to ride with easy, smooth gaits, and he can kick up some dirt when it’s time to ride ‘n slide! He will be used in the ranch rodeo and ranch horse show during Art of the Cowgirl. Compa comes from a line of mares that’s been in Kelsey’s family for more than 44 years. Each Paint from this lineage has proved to be special, and Compa is no exception!
